Updates on Filming Plans

We're just coming on to the first week of filming, and organising the crew and costumes is finally done. I've been finalising the scripts and the effects used. So far the crew includes two actors, a cinematographer, a production assistant, a stylist, and me. We're going to have four shooting days.

1. Effects Day (in flat)

This will be all of the inserts for the film, including the lightshow footage. There will be more days of just lightshow shoots but I just do that in the flat a lot anyway so I have plenty of footage to use already, but will be trying more techniques out, including doing it fully analogue using a vintage slide projector which I am currently just in the process of cleaning and fixing up. We will also be testing out some of the techniques for other days.

2.  Chapel

I'm very lucky to have gotten access to the university chapel for filming the church scene. This is going to be one of the most complex filming days since we'll be using projectors, mirrors, and will need a good number of people on set for this. I've finally figured out how to do the stained glass effect for the film, using gels stuck onto plates and reflecting light off of them. So far I have 4 different versions made and I'm really happy with how they came out. This is the big scene before the full lightshow segment so it will be the most experimental and where we can be the most playful. I am slightly concerned about how bright the lights have to be for the reflections to work, but I've only been testing them in the flat so hopefully in a bigger space it will work better.

3. Park/ Street Scenes

We're filming our dreamscape wedding scene in a park, our stylist has gotten access to a full vintage wardrobe for the film, including a wedding dress from the 60s. I am considering not using it in case it gets dirty or damaged, but we have another possible dress. There are no lights in the park so it will all have to be battery operated, but we're already dealing with that problem with the church so it should be okay, as long as we have everything well lit.

4. Laundromat/Furniture Store

This is the one location I still haven't managed to lock down. While the Park scene represents a childlike wedding scene, this scene is more of a mad men inspired take on a dreamlike future. Using imagery from another aspect of 60s culture in combination with psychedelic techniques. I've tried at several laundromats but still have not managed to secure one, but I feel as though this scene could work with a furniture shop as well.
