Post Production Progress

I've just received the blended final track from my amazing musician, so I'm adjusting the piece to flow with the transition from the first "romantic" scene to the second "trip" scene. The music is great and I'll be adding a bit of sound design on top as well, to go with the more realistic first segment, before the trip sequence where it is all music and light show.

In terms of animation I have one part completed,  as seen below this is the more natural part of the animation that I'm trying to use for my final film, I did struggle a bit finding the balance between it being natural looking but also noticeable. If I have time before submission I'll try and rework the colors a bit, as they're quite off, but I'm happy with it as a first draft. The goal for this shot was to show the slow transition into the trip sequence, and as happened with a similar shot I did in the first semester, the goal is for It to be there but maybe not be something you'd notice at the first viewing, which I'm hoping to do with many small shots in the longer final video.

The other animations I'll be working on are much more cartoon-y, trying to reflect a 60s handmade style by doing them all drawn frame by frame, acting either as a transition or as part of the trip sequence. So far, the most difficult part for me in post production has been the first segment. Trying to make two different filming days with 3 different cameras on different settings look like they fit together has been a fight between me and colorgrading, but so far I'm quite happy with it. The thing I've struggled with the most is accepting when I just have to change things that aren't working, I find that quite often I'll become attached to a shot or transition that just isn't doing what I thought it would, and spend a lot of time trying to fix it, when ultimately it just needed to be replaced by something else. I have started being more harsh with myself about this though, because I've found that when this happens the solution normally looks significantly better and has the effect that I needed, even if it wasn't what I had originally envisioned. The "romantic" segment has been a challenge of trying to convey these emotions while not coming off as too cheesy, and also letting myself be creative and not bound by rigid editing rules, while also having a piece that makes sense.

I'm now onto editing the trip sequence and having lots of fun doing it, the Liquid Light Shows and animation have been my favourite thing to do since the start, and while they are taking up more of the run time than originally planned, it is in line with the music and my goals for this teaser trailer. I'll be posting more updates as this progresses. With 5 days till the deadline I'm feeling quite happy with what I have so far, but these last few days are going to be used getting the video to exactly how I want it to be.
