First Shoot for 5 Min Excerpt
The first shoot for this excerpt was unfortunately under pouring rain. The cast and crew were great, encouraging me to still give the shoot a go despite the rain, and while we spent most of our time trying not to let the equipment get soaked, we got some nice shots out of it. The rain reflected the lights in a real interesting way, and since lots of my work includes playing with light it will be interesting to use. The shoot itself looked a bit too romantic for what I was going for, but since the transition is between a rom-com kind of film to a fully psychedelic immersion, I think it will work okay for this assignment, but now I know what I would like to change for the final film.
In my hurry to get everything shot despite the rain and cold, I did forget to film any B roll, I also made this mistake in the reshoot, which despite my checking the forcast for a week before, also included lots of rain. I will be doing a third day of shooting for footage to use for the animation segment and for B roll that I will also be animating over.
We had two cameras going for this shoot, one static one and one for movement and closeups, and they are very different settings so colorgrading them to match will be quite difficult. Overall I'm quite happy with how this turned out giving the weather, and will make a separate post about the subsequent reshoots and editing process to follow. Due to both the reshoots and my laptop being stuck in the shop for much longer than I'd been told it would be, I now have only two weeks rather than the month I'd had planned for post production, but the reason I gave myself so much time between the first shoot and the deadline was anticipating that there would be issues and setbacks. However the week with no laptop cut the time by more, but I think that I'll be able to meet all these deadlines. The only part of the post production that I know will take a very long time is the animation, but now that I have 90% of the footage ready I should be able to start that today or tomorrow and make lots of progress.
