Experimenting With Handmade Cinema

I'm currently on chapter 4 of Gregory Zinman's Making Images Move, and so far the focus of his research has been on handmade cinema in regards to artists that have physically manipulated filmstrips using dyes, paints, and more extreme methods such as blood and burying the filmstrip for weeks on end. I have already talked about printing out individual frames and drawing on them, but after reading this I'd like to attempt something slightly more tactile, inspired by the works of Stan Brakhage, Maurice LemaĆ®tre, and Len Lye.

While its not feasible for me to be able to manipulate actual filmstrip right now, I'm instead going to be filming a short video (30sec-1min) and then printing out each frame individually on sheets of paper, (24 frames per page) which I'll then paint over, rip, scratch, and burn. I'll then scan or photograph these to pub back into Premier Pro. While I wish I could do this on actual film and I've definitely seen a paper technique like this used online before, I'd like to try out the concepts that I've been reading about and see how they interact in this medium. If this goes well I may experiment with more mediums such as coloured paper and cut out typography. I was originally using the JVC to contribute to the handmade feel that I wanted in my final film, with the same going for the liquid light shows and frame by frame animation, hopefully this will bring a more hands on approach into my overall practice.
