Liquid Light Concept Mockups
Having finished Wheels of Light and doing some more research into liquid light shows and other techniques used in the era, I've decided it's definitely a concept I'd like to explore in my experimentations in my final film. What intrigues me most about these techniques is the use of layering in them and how different textures and mediums can interact in these. Traditionally, etchings and transparent pictures were used with these projections to layer illustration with the liquid on a projector screen, but I'm interested in the possibility of combining a homemade version of this with live action footage overlayed on top as well as the possibility of using hand drawn frame by frame animation on paper and how this could all be combined to create an immersive, haptic experience.
Having this idea, I decided to make these mockups of what the combination of these mediums may look like. The images I used to combine were just ones I found online, playing with different kinds of layering and blending modes on photoshop. For the real thing I would not use any found footage or images but create all the elements separately and play with both digital and analog ways of combining them. I will be making another blog post soon outlining in more detail my research on these light shows and how they can be made at home, as well as the feasibility of myself doing them in the next 3 months before our 5 minute segment deadline, and what images and artists I've been researching that inspire how I'll be adopting this practice into my own work.
