Yoko Ono Grapefruit Animations
Over the break I've decided to spend some time practicing more animation in different styles. I came across some excerpts from Yoko Ono's book Grapefruit, and found the symbolism she uses in it interesting and quite simple to make short animations from. I'm currently working on an animation for Tunafish Sandwich Piece, and trying to make it in a style quite similar to linocut, or just printed in general. I originally intended for the animation to be quite simple, but as I was drawing the reference images they ended up being quite complicated, so it is taking longer than I expected to animate each frame.
I'm planning on this animation lasting less than 10 seconds, and while the animation style for the drawing is important, I'm also considering what can be done in premier pro to make this animation look as printed as possible. I will be using paper textures (not sure if still images or video), and trying different blending modes to make this look as natural as possible. The animation itself will also be quite jumpy, animated in twos and with less smooth movements to give this effect. I'm also talking to the musician I've worked with for several of my projects to see what he thinks will work best to go with these poems. Some of my storyboarding and inspiration pictures are below. I'm also working on a plan for her piece Daisy Talk in a pointillism style, but this involves many more keyframes and will take a while to complete, so may not be done this semester.
