Documentary Shooting and Plan
Yesterday I filmed part of the documentary I've been working on, focusing on imagery and practice that is described in the book. I'm quite happy with how a lot of the shots turned out and am excited to overlay this with the audio I've already recorded. I'll also be recording some reading of the actual book for this. I also have some documentaries and videos from around the 70s and 80s about witchcraft in the modern age that I will be trying to find a way to incorporate into this. The color and fade on it will be quite different from my own footage so I'll be looking for a way to make these blend as seamlessly as possible. As you can see, the two main videos I'll be using are taken from VHS tapes. While the quality isn't amazing, I'm interested to see how mixing this footage will fit in with the more high image quality one I've just filled. Since I'm filming on a JVC camcorder some of the aspects I like from this era such as the grain tends to come up a bit in my own filming, so seeing how these two can merge will be an interesting challenge.
There is still one section from the book that I'd like to film but the lighting in that room wasn't quite right for this. I'll try to have as much of the documentary done by the end of tomorrow as possible and then fill in the rest of the bits during reading week as I'll have access to the camera again. Overall I'm quite happy with how the footage and audio are looking so far I'm hoping this will all come together in the edit the way I've planned. While I'm feeling quite confident about the visuals I'm still not feeling to confident about trying out sound design. While I'll have a first rough cut ready tomorrow I'll be doing the finishing touches on sound and maybe some small animations in the next week.
